Red Up the Church for Pentecost!

Sunday, May 20 Wear something Red! Red is the liturgical color for Pentecost Sunday. Red recalls the tongues of flame in which the Holy Spirit descended on the first Pentecost. Pentecost is the great festival that marks the birth of the Christian church by the power of the Holy Spirit. Pentecost means “fiftieth day” and is celebrated 50 days after Easter Sunday. The Day of Pentecost is one of the seven principal feasts of the church year in the Episcopal Church (BCP, p. 15), and is identified by the Book of Common Prayer as one of the feasts that is “especially appropriate” for baptism (p. 312). “Red Up the Church” & wear something RED!

The United Thank Offering (UTO) is a ministry of The Episcopal Church for the mission of the whole church. Through UTO, men, women, and children nurture the habit of giving daily thanks to God. These prayers of thanksgiving start when we recognize and name our many daily blessings. Those who participate in UTO discover that thankfulness leads to generosity. UTO is entrusted to promote thank offerings, to receive the offerings, and to distribute the monies to support mission and ministry throughout The Episcopal Church and Provinces of the Anglican Communion.
