Fair Trade Coffee, Tea & CHOCOLATE!

The 136th Convention of the Diocese of Western Michigan passed a resolution to form a deep commitment to our partner diocese in the Dominican Republic through encouraging Fair Trade coffee, tea and chocolate in our congregations and requiring in it at diocesan functions.
St. Gregory's has already been working with Equal Exchange to procure coffee, tea and chocolate. In the fall of 2010, we embraced our love of chocolate and our desire to teach others about fair trade products. We moved to fair trade coffee from the Dominican Republic which is provided by Provided by Equal Exchange, we went 'all in' with fair trade chocolate by October 2010.

There could be no better pairing than coffee and chocolate. You probably love one or the other, probably both! Coffee from Equal Exchange is delicious, however, most of the coffee provided by them, while organic and fair trade, is not from the Dominican Republic. We now provide coffee from the Cafe Alta Garcia. Their coffee comes to the U.S. through The Vermont Coffee Company. The mission of Cafe Alta Garcia is summed up on their website.
"We dream of enriching the human community, empowering farmers We carry two types of organic fair trade coffee
and their
families to read and write, to feel pride in their stewardship from the Dominican Republic:
of the
land, and be paid fairly for their labor. We dream that from Cafe Alta Garcia and Tres Mariposas
this place
named Alta Gracia, high grace will spread to our
neighbors beyond our
small farm and beyond our small country."
